The Village of Northfield has a Mayor's Court, which is presided over by Magistrate John Montello.  Court is usually held the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month starting at 9:30am.  Please give at least 5 working days between the date of the stop and waiver date. The Village Prosecutor is Brad Bryan.

Waiverable offenses may be paid prior to the court date by personal check, money order, cashier's check from a bank, or credit card (Visa, Mastercard or Discover).  Waiver amounts can be accessed by calling the Clerk of Court at 330.468.4366 or via email at Clerk of Court.

The Village of Northfield's Mayor's Court processes certain misdemeanor citations issued by the Village of Northfield Police Department.  These citations can be traffic or criminal offenses.  The Village of Northfield Mayor's Court works with the Stow Municipal Courts when cases are transferred.  Mayor's Court does not hear juvenile cases.  Cases in which a defendant is under 18 years of age are transferred to the Juvenile Court in Akron.  The Juvenile Diversion program is for first time offenders under 18 years of age with a misdemeanor offense.  This program is designated for juveniles who have had no history with the Juvenile Court.  The offense will go to the Juvenile Diversion officer and the juvenile with go through the program rather than to Juvenile Court.

Please check the front of your ticket for any of the following requirements:

Personal Appearance Required. If the officer marked this block on the face of the ticket, you must appear in court.

Waiverable Through Traffic Violation Bureau. If you are charged with a waiverable offense, you may, before your court date, pay the waiver without appearing in court by doing one of the following:
Appearing personally at the traffic violations bureau, signing the waiver on the back of your ticket and paying the fines and costs.

  • Signing the back of your ticket and maililng it along with check or money order for the total of the fines and costs to the traffic violations bureau at the following address, made payable to Northfield Village Mayor's Court:

Proof of insurance, verifying coverage for the date of your ticket, must also be provided to the court and can be mailed with your ticket or faxed to 330.468.2518.

Continuances: If there is a conflict with the court date on the citation, you may file for one continuance at the Clerk of Court office. A five dollar fee will be added to the fines and costs.

Failure to appear and/or pay: If you do not pay or appear in court on the date stated on the citation, your license may be cancelled and additional fees will be added. Also, a warrant may be issued for your arrest and you may be subject to additional criminal penalties.

Notice to Defendant Under Eighteen Years of Age:  You must appear before the Juvenile Court at the time and place determined by that court.  The Juvenile Court will notify you when and where to appear.  This ticket will be filed with the Juvenile Court and may be used as a juvenile complaint.  For information regarding your duty to appear at Juvenile Court call:
